Chaperone TEAM

The Chaperone Team gets to interact with the students on many different levels by assisting with special events, accompanying the band to various events, and helping the director with various tasks.  See more detailed information on specific duties below.

AWAY FOOTBALL GAME

Assist with carrying band equipment into football stadium - Carrying first aid backpack, containing medical book - Supervising band students during the game, halftime performance, and breaks - Taping off designated marching band section within the visiting stands - Keeping a trash bag to help prevent garbage from being left in the visiting stands and the buses – informing band students where this trash bag is located - Coordinating with cheerleader coach to determine band’s seating location within the visiting stands - Riding the bus with band students and assist with supervision during transport - Ensuring that students can stay hydrated in the visiting stands by packing the large water cooler or individual water bottles - Could be responsible for handing out band-provided snacks on bus while it is loaded or during transport

HOME FOOTBALL GAME

Setting up traffic cones at the admissions parking lot and front entrance roundabout to allow clear passage for the band to the football stadium - Stopping traffic that may try to drive near the marching band while it travels to the football stadium – walking alongside the marching band and halting cars as necessary - Carrying first aid backpack, containing medical book - Supervising band students during the game, halftime performance, and breaks - Laying seating covers to designate marching band section within the home stands - Keeping a trash bag to help prevent garbage from being left in the home stands – informing band students where this trash bag is located - Ensuring that students can stay hydrated in the home stands by refilling the large water cooler or resupplying cups as needed - Assist the volunteers participating with the 50/50 raffle by serving as a “home base” for the collected money, tickets, and drawing bin - Giving the pressbox announcer the pre-game/halftime announcements and advertisement blurbs for fundraisers as provided by the band director.

COMPETITION

Riding the bus with band students and assist with supervision during transport - Assist with carrying band equipment/props into the competition stadium - Carrying first aid backpack, containing medical book - Keeping a trash bag to help prevent garbage from being left in the competition stands and the buses – informing band students where this trash bag is located - Tapping off or laying seating covers to designate marching band section within the competition stands - Could be responsible for handing out band-provided snacks on bus while it is loaded or during transport - Stopping traffic that may try to drive near the marching band while it travels to the warm-up location and to the competition stadium – walking alongside the marching band and halting cars as necessary - Ensuring that students can stay hydrated by packing the large water cooler or individual water bottles - Taking a box of extra uniform components onto the bus or band trailer - Being available to assist the band director or staff with band student needs - Supervising band students during the entire trip (bus rides, warm-up, performance, breaks, awards ceremony, etc) – willing to help cover supervision of various sections within the marching band.

PARADE

Riding the bus with band students and assist with supervision during transport - Carrying first aid backpack, containing medical book - Keeping a trash bag to help prevent garbage from being left in the buses – informing band students where this trash bag is located - Supervising band students during the entire trip (bus rides, warm-up, parade performance, breaks, etc) – willing to help cover supervision of various sections within the marching band - Walking with the marching band during the parade performance and helping in case of an emergency   - Being available to assist the band director or staff with band student needs - Ensuring that students can stay hydrated by packing the large water cooler or individual water bottles - Could be responsible for handing out band-provided snacks on bus while it is loaded or during transport - Stopping traffic that may drive near the marching band while it travels to and from the warm-up location – staying near the marching band and halting cars as necessary - Taking a box of extra uniform components onto the bus or band trailer.

BAND CAMP

Being available to assist band students if they do not feel well – sitting with students who may need to rest  - Helping other volunteers with various tasks – finding the to-do list (organizing binders, taping mats, etc) and completing as able - Identifying/implementing cool-down methods or creating cool-down stations for use during rehearsal - Organizing the first aid backpack and medical book for use at future events - Ensuring that students can stay hydrated by refilling band student water bottles (using the large water cooler) and/or large water cooler (using the hose in the food closet) - Being available to assist the band director or staff with band student needs - Supervising band students at various points during the day (meals, transitions, breaks, etc) – willing to help cover supervision of various sections within the marching band - Understanding that there might be a considerable down-time, but this volunteer position is critical to the safety and productivity of rehearsals.

SENIOR NIGHT

Ensuring that there is enough coverage for this particular event, as each senior band student’s parent(s) will be spending time with their child during the ceremony prior to the football game and escorting him or her onto the football field prior to the halftime performance - Setting up traffic cones at the admissions parking lot and front entrance roundabout to allow clear passage for the band to the football stadium - Stopping traffic that may try to drive near the marching band while it travels to the football stadium – walking alongside the marching band and halting cars as necessary - Carrying first aid backpack, containing medical book - Supervising band students during the game, halftime performance, and breaks - Laying seating covers to designate marching band section within the home stands - Keeping a trash bag to help prevent garbage from being left in the home stands – informing band students where this trash bag is located - Ensuring that students can stay hydrated in the home stands by refilling the large water cooler or resupplying cups as needed - Assist the volunteers participating with the 50/50 raffle by serving as a “home base” for the collected money, tickets, and drawing bin - Giving the pressbox announcer the pre-game/halftime announcements and advertisement blurbs for fundraisers as provided by the band director.
